Palm Pre - A Diamond in the Rough

Palm’s new Pre’, a great phone… a great Smart phone. But it needs work. This phone has so much potential and could be at the top of anyone’s wish list if not for the few “standard” lacking features. The Palm Pre’ is full of Good News and Bad News.

I will start with the Bad…

• Unable to Forward Text Messages (Should have been a Standard Feature)
• Visual Voice Mail (Again… Should have been standard. Example: Samsung Instinct)
• In-ability to view E-Mail/SMS in Landscape mode.
• Universal Search only searches Contacts, Apps & Internet , not E-Mail or SMS
• Phone Application lacks Favorite Contacts list

Now for the good…

• Universal Search is a fast way to find a Contact or search the Internet
• Touch interface is very responsive
• Third Party applications (App Catalog/Homebrew/Themes)
• Regular Updates from Palm.
• Multi-Tasking, Ability to run multiple applications at once.
• 3 MP Camera.
• Default applications such as Youtube, Sprint TV, NFL…
• Syncs Contacts from Google, Facebook, AIM…  All the big boys

Overall this is a great phone.  With hopes that Palm will continue to provide regular updates and the fact that the Community… PreCentral.net for example, are providing third party apps and patches to make this phone everything it should be.
